ADW Developments has now strengthened its embodied carbon and life cycle costing services by achieving IMPACT compliance.
IMPACT is the specification and database developed by BRE and partners to enable consistent life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle costing (LCC) of building projects.
Use of IMPACT makes a significant positive contribution to BREEAM and other sustainability certification ratings. Projects using IMPACT-compliant analysis can gain additional credits under BREEAM schemes for both new construction and refurbishment and fit-out.
Achieving compliance under IMPACT means that ADW are officially recognised by BRE. We are providing robust and efficient embodied carbon analysis of projects, together with accompanying life cycle costing services. This provides a powerful tool for designers and clients to help them understand and evaluate embodied carbon impacts of alternative design strategies, which is a vitally important as the building sector seeks to reduce its climate change impact and reduce embodied carbon as we head towards zero carbon target.
What is IMPACT?
IMPACT is the specification and database created by BRE and partners to enable consistent Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Costing (LCC). IMPACT compliant tools work by allowing the user to attribute environmental and cost information to drawn or scheduled items in the Building Information Model (BIM). In simple terms, IMPACT takes quantity information from the BIM and multiplies this by environmental impact and/or cost ‘rates’ to produce an overall impact and cost for the whole or a selected part of the design. The results generated by IMPACT allow the user to:
- analyse the design to optimise cost and environmental impacts
- compare whole-building results to a suitable benchmark to assess performance, which can be linked to sustainability certification schemes such as BREEAM
