Construction products make a highly significant contribution to the overall life cycle impact of a building. The aim of the Mat 01 life cycle assessment issue in BREEAM is to understand, consider and reduce the environmental impact of construction materials. It encourages the selection of products with a lower environmental impact, including embodied carbon, over the life cycle of the building.
Up to seven credits and three exemplary credits are available in BREEAM UK New Construction 2018, which rewards good quality building LCA through comparison with a BREEAM benchmark and the appraisal of design options. There are similar requirements on other BREEAM schemes for refurbishment and international new construction.
What makes ADW special?
ADW provides expert LCA analysis which is BRE IMPACT-compliant and we have experience of applying BREEAM LCA methodology to a wide range of projects. Our LCA analysis and recommendations are also provided in accordance with the requirements specified in ISO 14044:2006 Environmental Management – Life Cycle Assessment.
Mat 01 is an area of BREEAM which, if considered early in the design process, can score a high number of credits on a very cost-effective basis. ADW can help the client choose the best building components at no additional cost and achieve the high value credits which contribute to a high BREEAM score.
